Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
The Firefighter role encompasses a wide range of duties, performed under the mentorship and supervision of senior team members. While not exhaustive, the following responsibilities highlight the core expectations of the role:

Emergency Response: Respond promptly to fire incidents, rescue operations, and other emergency and non-emergency humanitarian situations. This includes tackling fires, managing hazardous substance incidents, and performing extrications to release trapped individuals.

Medical Assistance: Administer basic medical care, including resuscitation and treatment of injured persons, as directed by supervisors. Conduct emergency operations with precision and care to stabilize casualties.

Equipment Operation: Operate a variety of firefighting tools, including mobile and fixed breathing apparatus, to control, manage, and extinguish fires. Ensure proper use of equipment in high-risk scenarios to protect lives and property.

Fire Prevention: Undertake fire protection duties in situations that pose potential threats to safety. Advise on preventative and corrective actions to mitigate risks and conduct health and safety inspections to maintain a secure environment.

Training and Development: Participate in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness programs to maintain readiness. Train relevant employees on fire prevention and firefighting techniques, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills.

Security and Safety Protocols: Implement procedures and strategies to promote local and national security, safeguarding data, people, institutions, and property. Adhere to the Fidelity Group’s code of conduct and regulatory standards.

Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance on firefighting vehicles and equipment, including checking, cleaning, and testing to ensure operational readiness. Complete computerized occurrence logs to maintain accurate records of daily incidents.

Community Engagement: Liaise with clients and stakeholders, leveraging strong interpersonal communication skills to foster trust and collaboration. Provide guidance on safety practices to enhance community preparedness.
Qualifications and Requirements

Educational Requirements

Minimum Qualification: Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.

Certifications:

IFSAC Accredited NFPA 1001 Firefighter 2 Certification.

Firefighter II Certification.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification.

First Aid Levels 1 to 3.

Basic Ambulance Attendant Certification.

Experience

Firefighting Experience: A minimum of 2 years of related firefighting experience is essential.

Advanced Driving: Experience in advanced driving is advantageous but not mandatory.
